Urbanwood Example - Cherry Table Top

This image was sent to Recycle Ann Arbor by Sari Arel, of Scio Township. Sari purchased 6 planks of cherry wood, from the Urbanwood department at the ReUse Center. The wood cost around $120. Working with her friend Ted Chesky, Sari put the planks through a planer to ensure they were all the same thickness. The planks were joined together in sections by making holes in the sides for biscuits, and then gluing them together. Sari scraped the seams and sanded the surface. The table was finished with one coat of shellac and several coats of walnut oil; Sari will continue to oil the surface on an as-needed basis.
In total the project took 20+ hours to get to the very final stage. Sari loves the table, but isn’t planning to undertake any similar projects in the near future.
The ReUse Center is open Monday through Saturday 9am-5pm, and Sunday 10am-2pm. If you have any examples of Urbanwood projects you would like to share, please contact service@recycleannarbor.org.
