Smoke detectors contain a small amount of toxic chemicals that are safe when the detector is in use, but if the detector is broken or crushed, it is extremely dangerous.

Regularly check your smoke detectors to ensure that they are working properly, so you do not have to dispose of them prematurely.

Recycle Ann Arbor only accepts a very limited number of toxic materials. Washtenaw County’s Home Toxics Reduction Program provides the county residents with a disposal option for the rest of these products.
