Acetone is a chemical most commonly found in nail polish remover, certain cleaners, and some medical creams. You can take acetone products to Washtenaw County's Home Toxics disposal site.

Acids and bases are most commonly used scientifically, and collected into a large drop-off bin. If you need to dispose of used acids and bases, take them to Washtenaw County's Home Toxics disposal site.

Empty aerosol cans are accepted in Ann Arbor curbside recycling bins. Additionally, they are accepted for recycling at the Drop-Off Station and Recovery Yard.

Alkaline batteries

Alkaline batteries should not be placed in the curbside recycling bin. We do not accept alkaline batteries at are not accepted at any division of RAA. Washtenaw County's Home Toxics disposal site accepts alkaline batteries for proper recycling.

Appliances, Freon, not working

Appliances containing freon must be handled appropriately in order to be recycled. Freon must first be safely drained and disposed of, in order to recycle the other materials. Due to the necessary specialized care in order to recycle, an extra fee of $28 per freon appliance will be charged.  Examples of freon appliances: air conditioners, refrigerators, humidifiers, and dehumidifiers.

Aseptic containers (also commonly labeled with "Tetra Pak") are food and drink cartons. Some examples of items in aseptic containers are broth, soups, juice boxes, milk, etc.

Bamboo Products

Bamboo products such as bamboo utensils, bamboo toothbrushes, bamboo dish scrubbers, and bamboo hair brushes are all accepted in A2 curbside compost. To compost products with bristles such as toothbrushes and hair brushes, you should remove the bristles (click on more info to find out how) or snap off the part of the product that contains bristles.
