Looking for something that isn’t listed in this guide? If your item doesn’t pop up on our list, odds are it can’t be recycled and should be thrown in the trash. Recycle Ann Arbor only accepts items that can be authentically recycled. When in doubt, throw it out, as items that can't be recycled will contaminate the recycling stream. Choose zero waste and aim to reduce and reuse the items that can’t be recycled.

Electronics, not working or older
E-Waste electronics that are not working are accepted for recycling at the Drop-Off Station. E-waste often contains hazardous materials but is also full of valuable materials like silver, copper, gold, and other resources. By recycling electronics instead of throwing them in a landfill, we can reduce the amount of mining and manufacturing required to produce more electronics in the future.Accepted at:

Nickel cadmium batteries
Undamaged and damaged rechargeable nickel cadmium batteries (Ni–Cd battery or NiCad battery) are accepted for recycling at Washtenaw County's Home Toxics disposal site (appointments are required). To prevent fires, please tape the ends/terminals of each battery before recycling them. Before taking them in, you must contact Washtenaw Home Toxics for proper packaging requirements. Nickel cadmium batteries are small dry-cell seal batteries. They are commonly used in cordless power tools, cordless/wireless phones, camcorders, portable electronics, and remote-controlled toys. Do not put batteries of any kind in your curbside recycling cart.Accepted at:
Washtenaw Home Toxics
Recycle Ann Arbor only accepts a very limited number of toxic materials. Washtenaw County’s Home Toxics Reduction Program provides the county residents with a disposal option for the rest of these products.
