Volunteer for the ReUse Center 20th Anniversary Celebration
Saturday, April 23, 2016 - 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Recycle Ann Arbor’s ReUse Center is turning 20 this year! We want to celebrate with the Ann Arbor community that made it happen, but we can’t pull-off this grand celebration without the help of a few dedicated volunteers. If you love the atmosphere of a festival, interacting with the public, and the concept of recycling/reuse then we’ve got an opportunity for you!
- #1-Children's Recycled Craft Table- Assist children and families with constructing a fun craft made from reusable and recyclable materials. Volunteers will directly help children make the craft, keep the flow of families moving along, and assist with general set-up and clean-up of the project as needed. Shift: 11:30am-1:30pm
- #2-Swap Shop (Clothing & Toys) Table- Community members will be bringing gently used clothes and children’s toys to trade among themselves in an effort to benefit one another and keep items from the landfill. Visitors must have an item to swap in order to participate. Volunteers will directly help visitors at the booth to keep items sorted as needed and assist with the general flow of the table so materials are fairly exchanged and added. The 10am-1pm shift will help with setting up the first few items coming in, while the 1-4:30pm will be responsible for clean-up of the table including sorting items into other donation boxes for going to an off-site facility. Shift: 10am-1pm and 1-4:30pm
- #3-Touch-a-Truck Activity-Assist children in their experience of engaging with a large recycling truck. Volunteers will directly help children enter and exit the cab of the truck as necessary, with the help of a step-stool and a Curbside staff member. Opportunities may exist to hand out recycling guide books or other take-away materials to families. The primary volunteer concern is for providing a safe and fun experience. Parents should be present at all times to be the primary helper. Shift: 10am-12pm
- #4-Outreach Table- Engage with the public about Recycle Ann Arbor while manning a company outreach table full of brochures, recycling guides, and other relevant information to Recycle Ann Arbor. Knowledge of the organization is helpful, but not required as minimal training will be done on-site. Volunteers will work with a RAA staff member from 12-1pm, but will most likely be hosting the table by themselves 10am-12pm. Volunteers should be comfortable with interacting with a diverse population. Shift: 10am-1pm
When you express your interest, please specify which opportunity and shift you are most interested in. Please email [email protected] with your volunteer interest.
We will then email you back the day-of logistics and confirmation of your shift.
