Lumber, untreated

Untreated, unpainted lumber is accepted in Ann Arbor curbside compost carts, and at the Drop-Off Station and Recovery Yard for recycling. No paint/stain, particle board, or plywood is accepted. Untreated lumber (new full pieces) and plywood (must be at least 4’x8’ sheets) are accepted for donation at Habitat for Humanity RestoreTreated lumber is not recyclable.

To dispose of untreated lumber in curbside compost cart, wood must fit in cart with lid closed.

Recycle Right!

Untreated lumber should be clean and free of nails, staples, etc, in order to be composted as yard waste. Read Recycling Tips for Better Results: What to Do with Wood.

Choose Zero Waste!

Refurbish or repurpose lumber first and find another use for it in your home; if not possible. Donate unwanted untreated lumber (new full pieces) and plywood (must be at least 4’x8’ sheets) at Habitat for Humanity Restore to ensure they get reused! Composting as a last step is one of the best ways to eliminate waste in your community!
